A wonderful discovery; practically on my doorstep. This classic Dutch farmhouse, near the border of Germany, is steeped in a history that dates back to 1272. It offers a range of accommodation from luxury suites within the farmhouse to vintage safari lodge tents (complete with wooden bathtubs) and ‘Star Cubes’ – wooden huts with a skylight window so you can stargaze from the comfort of your own bed. A telescope also provided.
Stayed here in February in a ‘Star Cube’. Was wonderful being able to barbecue and eat outdoors (we wore our North Face jackets as weather in February still not quite conducive to such activities). Couldn’t quite work out the telescopes but the best thing was getting into bed and lying there being able to look at the skies through the skylight window. Magical!
Breakfast brought in a picnic hamper to your doorstep. Wonderful! On the downside, Star Cubes quite close to each other and the farm so doesn’t feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere (although we very much enjoyed meeting our neighbours. Plus on Saturday nights everyone can eat together on a long table in the farmhouse – optional – so conviviality encouraged). Others recommended the Vintage tents – right at the end of a field – for a more private ‘glamping’ experience. We’ll try those next. But all in all: brilliant.
